Homespun Seals Bio
(May, 2025)
After twenty-five years, Jay Seals is still wandering down an ever-expanding musical highway, chasing new sounds, moods, and melodies with each song and recording. In the 2020s, crafting music as Homespun Seals, he let the project evolve naturally across 3 EP albums; from the intimate simplicity of bedroom folk, through textured acoustic synth folk, and into the bright edges of indie pop. Each release served as a stepping stone toward 2025’s Continental Shelves, where those influences came together and reached for something new.

The nine-track album blends electronic folk and indie pop with a touch of dream pop’s ethereal lightness. Lyrics delve into themes of life, liberty, and the pursuit of madness in today’s modern, upside world. The album’s warmth is amplified by the harmonies of his wife, Shara Seals, whose seasoned voice adds depth and soul. Longtime collaborator John Morales returned to co-produce and record, helping craft a soundscape that feels both intimate and expansive. The result is a record that radiates warmth, sophistication, and heartfelt authenticity.

Looking back, Jay’s seasoned musician’s tale spans over 1,300 stages and founding roles in 3 bands (Blue Turtle Seduction, Dad’s LPs, and High Tide). Looking ahead, Homespun Seals plans more releases, including a garage band EP revisiting early 2020s tracks and a new album continuing the sonic journey sparked by Continental Shelves.
